Delta Lloyd, Volvo Ocean Race 2008/2009... "With our last minute Volvo campaign we were up against the wall to prepare the boat sufficiently to get to the start line in Alicante. From the moment we made the call to Marine Electrics, Paul pulled out all the stops to do everything he could for us, at short notice in Limerick when he put in long hours and managed to fit us in around his other commitments, and also in Alicante where his assistance was invaluable. We found Pauls attitude and ability to work with our Team and  help out in any way he could an invaluable contribution to the success of getting this campaign to the start line and prepared for the rigours of this race." Jeff Condell, Shore Support Manager, & Ger O Rourke CEO / Owner / skipper Team Delta Lloyd, Volvo Ocean Race 2008-2009.

... “I’ve been sailing for almost 35 years and the difference it makes to have secure reliable DC and AC systems is great. We always knew the stage of the charge in our batteries, had full AC throughout the boat for computers and entertainment systems and could run vital safety and navigation equipment as much as we liked without excessive engine hours. There is nothing like peace of mind when the nearest land is 500 miles away and you have only your onboard systems to rely on.”   John Murphy, Crew/Engineer

Just Nuts! Dublin to Sikea, Northern Sweden - 2009..."This was our first long distance cruise aboard Just Nuts! Despite her being relatively new we realized the onboard power package supplied by the manufacturer was totally inadequate for the distance and areas we would be cruising. Paul was an invaluable help in identifying our needs and supplying a realistic set of upgrades that wouldn’t result in overkill or vast expense. New Gel batteries gave us a useable 315 amp hours instead of 150, our existing alternator was modified and a regulator fitted to charge them efficiently, a monitor informed us as to the power we were drawing and allowed us manage the reserves we had left.

In addition Paul supplied and fitted an autohelm remote, a two station VHF, AIS and moved the plotter from the saloon to cockpit allowing us to identify, monitor and communicate easily with the heavy shipping encountered on route.

Paul also fitted an inverter allowing us to use the on board 220v system giving us TV,  the ability to run an internet router, charge our laptops and the kids Nintendo’s under way at night with all lights blazing and the off watch crew enjoying ice cold beer from the constantly on fridge. At no stage during our 2000 plus mile adventure did we need to run the engine specifically to charge the batteries or plug into shore power.

The only glitch we had was with our Raymarine log, neither supplied nor fitted by Paul. A Raymarine engineer, summoned aboard in Scotland, was unable to fix the problem – Paul however, delighted to act as impromptu shore support while dodging traffic on the M50 helped us test the system and isolate the offending part – for FREE!  He was subsequently able to supply and send off the correct spares to meet us. If that’s not after sales service I don’t know what is!"   Hugo Karlsson-Smythe, Skipper/Owner
